Resolutions for a Yappy New Year

Happy New Year! (Or as Murph would say, “Yappy!”)

I’m changing things up this year. Instead of making my resolutions right before the New Year starts, I’m making them right as the New Year starts.

Even before I took stock of 2007, I was thinking a lot about resolutions and what I want to accomplish in 2008.

Therein lies the problem. I never have any shortage of goals. If anything, I have way too many.

So I’m going to try and keep it simple this year.

Resolutions re Writing in the Pets Blog

• To be more like these fellow Families.com bloggers I admire greatly: my co-blogging Pets partner Aimee, Michele Cheplic, Tristi Pinkston, Kori Rodley Irons, and Valorie Delp.

Why? Because (a) they’re phenomenal writers, but also because (b) they rarely take a day of rest. (Refer to the Week in Reviews to see what I’m talking about. I usually take one day off.) They write several articles a day in each of their assigned topics. I don’t know if I can write that much (I’m a wee bit slow), but I’m going to try and up the ante.

• To cover more intriguing topics with practical information pet owners could learn from and implement in their lives.

That’s something else the bloggers I mentioned above do. Aimee’s a perfect example. She gives lots of specific information about how to care for pets. (I tend to be more general in my approach.)

Personal Resolutions re My Pets

• To find a way that playing with the pets and working can coexist in my life.

In order to accomplish my above Pets Blog goals, I’m going to have to reorganize my life slightly. That means I need to (a) wake up earlier, so (b) I can start playing with the animals earlier. If I keep things status quo, I’ll get to work at my same old time. And maybe I need to set aside certain days where we spend X amount of time playing. I’ll tinker with this one…

• See about getting Murph and me into a therapy pet program.

I’ve been wanting to do this one, but I thought we were moving back to Jacksonville so I held off learning more about it. But I think it’d be something both Murph and I could benefit from, have fun with, and enjoy doing together.

What do YOU want from Pets in ’08?

What kind of articles would you like to see more of in the Pets Blog? Ones about dogs? Cats? Both? Other types of pets? Pet care? Training? Products? Animals in the news? Animal organizations? Other?
