Resources for Children on LDS.org

As the primary president in my ward, and mother of three little ones, I’m always looking for ideas for lessons, sharing time, family home evening, etc. I have spoken before about the great website sugardoodle.net. But, it looks like the church is beefing up their website a bit to contain similar resources for parents, families, and teachers looking for additional materials online.

They have created a new section of the website dedicated to children’s resources. It can be found here. I know that I am personally excited to explore what there is to offer, and what they will be adding in the future.

As a primary president, I can’t wait to share with the teachers in my primary this new resource to help them in their lessons. Not every lesson is listed on the website as of yet, but for the lessons that do have supplemental resources you can find anything from music and media that go along with the lesson, coloring pages, activities, and additional stories. This is a great way for teachers to customize their lesson plans for their individual classes. I know that in our primary, we combine several age groups so that we have enough children per class. So, sometimes, customizing can be difficult when preparing a lesson for kids that are both 5 and 7 in the same class.

I also look forward to using the section in my own family where you can browse by topic. Very often, I think of a topic I want to teach my children in family home evening based on events that have happened during the week, and this section helps to take the guess work out of where to start.

I think it is so wonderful that the church website has expanded to include this new section. The church leaders always seem to be on top of the latest trends and what the church needs. I think this section for the children is no exception.
