Reuse and Recycle: It’s Time to Declutter

There is a new hit series on cable’s A&E network that everyone is talking about. The show is called “Hoarders” and it features the lives of individuals, who suffer with obsessive-compulsive disorders, and have a hard time parting with their belongings. The result is that their homes look like mass confusion. They are more than just cluttered. In some homes you can’t even see the floor.

I would guess that most of us don’t live this way. However I would also guess that many of us live with clutter. The green way of living is to reuse and recycle.

I had someone come in my home once and say that she would like to add a few more pictures and pieces to my home. My home is simple, but not plain. I have a few pictures and other wall accessories throughout the rooms, but not much. I know some who like to fill virtually every inch of wall space.

Walls are usually not the problem, however. Some homes are filled with so much furniture and knickknacks that the place feels almost stuffy. When you open up your living space you have more room to breathe. You also have less to clean, thereby using less chemicals and products.

If you are looking to de-clutter your home take time to really survey the items in each room. What pieces can you do without? Are there items that could be recycled? Keep only what you truly love and will actually use.

I know that for some if clutter has gotten completely out of hand it may seem like an insurmountable task. It may help to break down de-cluttering to one room a week or even one room a month. Once you have gone through your entire house and de-cluttered, you might even find its time to replace items with more eco-friendly products. Today you can find furniture items made from lumber that comes from renewable forests.

Recycle, reuse, and renew your living space for a greener, friendlier environment and home.
