Reuse Review: Clothing and Linens

Reusing items that you already have may be one of the best ways to practice a frugal living lifestyle. Sometimes, you can even purchase inexpensive items at a yard sale, thrift store or discount store and reuse them in new ways to save.

Clothing and linens are some of my favorite things to reuse because they are so versatile. I bet you can think of at least a dozen ways that you can reuse old or unloved items around your home. But, if you want to know at least a dozen more uses, you might just want to read the following articles. They are full of great reuse advice, from the practical to the creative.

Don’t Throw That Away – Old Clothing

It’s tempting, I know it. You have a pile of clothes that need to be donated or just plain thrown away. But don’t do it! Resist the temptation. It’s hard for me to give that advice being such an organized, anti-clutter person. However, there are many ways to make those old ragged clothes, new again. And it won’t cost much!

New Uses for Old Towels

Old towels are one of those things that I just never want to part with. I mean, what is more useful than a towel, right? However, if your towels are like some of mine, starting to fray at the ends, you might want to make them useful in a different way. Sure you could turn them into rags to wash the car, but there is so much more you can do with old towels.

Reuse Those Rags: Make a Rug

What do you do with clothes that are too worn to pass on to others? Reuse them of course!

New Uses for Old Jeans

Saturday morning, I stole an hour away to go thrift store shopping. They were having a sale, and Henry really needs some 6-9 month clothes. On the way out of the store and into my car, I heard a tear. Uh-oh.

New Uses for Old Socks

Since the golden age of appliances, there has been one burning question that has plagued mankind. How is it that two socks go into the dryer and only one comes out? The single sock phenomena (doo doo de doo do) is a mystery that has spun many bizarre theories, from socks completely dissolving into dryer lint, to socks entering some other single sock dimension.

Recycling Yarn: Unraveling a Thrift Store Find Can Save You Big Bucks

Knitting and crocheting are wonderful hobbies. Not only are they fun and creative, but they usually give you practical finished products.

New Uses for Old Ties

Every male closet has at least a few neck ties that are worn and or outdated. Why not put them to good use, or should I say, reuse?

More New Uses for Old Ties

Old ties gathering dust? Why not put them to good use with some fun and easy projects?

New Uses for Old Earrings

Do you have a bunch of old earrings that you never wear anymore? Earrings can be like single socks, one of the pair generally gets lost and then you can’t do anything with them. So you throw them in a drawer, and there they stay. Well, here are some frugal ways to take advantage of all of those unwanted earrings in some fun new ways. (And if you don’t have any unwanted earrings, check out your local thrift store or tag sale, where they can be had for pennies for a bagful.)

New Frugal Uses for Pillowcases

Pillowcases can often be found around the house or at thrift stores for pennies. Recently I found a bunch of new ones in some funky designs on clearance. They were a mere 50 cents a piece in the package (2 for a dollar).

Frugal Uses for Tights and Pantyhose

The other day I was cleaning out a bit of the master closet when I came across a box full of tights and pantyhose. I used to wear them quite often, actually on a daily basis, in my previous career. Now, however, they are just sitting there not doing much. Oh sure, I still wear tights and pantyhose, but not quite as frequently. Instead of every day, I am lucky if I get to wear a pair once a week. And so, I think I need to find some way to reuse the bulk of them.
