In my search for healthy foods and beverages, I have come across Genesis Today. Genesis Today offers a line of juices packed with nutrition and antioxidants. What it does not have is empty calories and additives like high fructose corn syrup, food dies, or fake sugar. The juice contains 100% real ingredients. This means two things; 1) Be mindful of the caloric intake. 2) Every calorie sipped in this drink will serve you well. The Genesis Today juice line was created by Naturopathic Doctor and Certified Nutritionist Dr. Lindsay Duncan who have not cut corners to bring quality to drinking juice. They boast using superfruits to bolster the nutritional value of the juice.
What are superfruits?
Acai : Brazilian in origin this berry is said to support healthy energy, skin, hair and nails and aid in weight control.
Gogi: From China, this fruit is said to promote energy, a healthy mood, mind and memory and healthy eyes.
Resveratrol: Plant extract from Japan is known to support cardiovascular health, youthful appearance and healthy inflammatory responses.
Cacao: Better known as chocolate it contains theobromine which helps with a happy mood. Also known to support energy and cardiovascular health.
Let me say that I am not a juice drinker. I do not drink juice because rarely do I feel the sugar, natural or not, and calories are worth my budgeted caloric allotment. Yet, I get bored drinking water so I am always on the lookout for more fun drinks that are pure and healthy. When I had the opportunity to taste test Genesis Today I was quite interested to see if I could broaden my beverage horizon. I also allowed my 13, 11, 5 and 2 year old to taste test with me.
What we tried:
Acai Berry, Cranberry Gogi, Pomegranate Berries, Omega Orange and Acai Light with Coconut Water
What we thought:
Before I begin, let me say that my favorite thing about this product is that the main ingredient is the superfruit. Most drinks will say it contains Acai but when you look at the ingredients the amount is actually quite small.
My favorite is the Pomegranate Berries. It has distinct taste that is not too sweet yet not too sharp and tart. None of the kids liked it but that could just be the difference between adult taste and kid taste. We all liked the Acai Berry which was a shock to me. I thought Acai would be so strong it would be overwhelming but I was wrong. My kids’ overall favorite was the Omega Orange. I found it to be too sweet for my taste. The least favorite was the Acai Light with Coconut Water. I expected this to be good since we all liked the Acai Berry. My 5 year old called it “powdery”. I understood what she was trying to say as it oddly has a drying feeling on the tongue. It could just be the strength of the Acai or maybe she and I have odd tongues since no one else reported the same feeling.
The juice is a bit thicker than regular apple juice and each flavor has a very distinct taste. This can be good or bad depending on your preference or what you are in the mood to drink. On one hand the juice is filling and satisfying while on the other hand it may not have the refreshing quality of ice cold water. The distinct taste may not appeal to all but the juice is true to character so if you enjoy cranberry, acai and pomegranate it will appeal to you. If you only thought you liked it because you are used to watered down pomegranate juice cocktails you may be in for a surprise (possibly a good surprise). The powerhouse of nutrition packed in this juice is worth giving it a taste test of your own. If you like sweet I think the Omega Orange is for you. If you like something less sweet and more distinct then try the Pomegranate Berries. If you are somewhere in the middle you may enjoy the Acai Berry. I am quite certain you will find the juice for you. Cheers to your health!
Disclosure: Taste testing provided by Genesis Today as they did not fear the opinionated views of children and the mom who made them that way.
