Job Site Name/Link: Jobs.com
Basics:
I have looked at this site several times when I have been searching for a job and I really was not impressed. I found the site difficult to navigate. The front page only lists major cities for each state and you have to run a search just to find your city. The job listings were hard to read.
However, the purpose of these posts is to give you the pros and cons of each site and so I knew that I had to come up with some pros. I almost chickened out and deleted this site from my list. Yet, I decided to give it one last effort and began looking around the site to try to find something worthwhile. I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. I guess this just proves that you can find good in anything if you look hard enough.
Pros:
The way that jobs.com is set up, any word that comes before jobs.com will give you a search. For example: education.jobs.com will give you teaching jobs; customerservice.jobs.com will take you to customer service positions. If you want to search for more than one keyword, then you just put periods between each word. For example: Lubbock.education.jobs.com will take you to teaching jobs in Lubbock, TX.
This is a pretty neat feature. The site even suggests that once you have decided on your keywords, you can set those as your homepage so that you can see the latest jobs each day when you log on.
So, I will admit I was wrong. There are some merits to this site and it has some pretty neat features. However, I still stand by my objections to the site and I will share those with you as well.
Cons:
In spite of it’s cool keyword.jobs.com option, I found this site really difficult to navigate. The home page has simply a list of states and major cities. I live in a fairly large city, but it is not one of the largest in my state and it was not on the list. When I selected my state, I received a list of every job they have in the state! Not very convenient. You have to keep trying keywords and different searches in order to get the list narrowed down. In addition, the site is peppered with those “Make a million in your first week” types of ads. It was hard to get past the junk to the real thing.
The Bottom Line:
This site does have some good elements and if the keyword feature fits your personality, then definitely take advantage of it. However, if you are looking for a simple, no-hassle way to look for a job, then this is not the place to go. There are a lot of other job-seeking sites out there that are much more user friendly and that reap better results.
