Rewards for Exercising

What would motivate you to exercise more? What about receiving some extra cash?

That doesn’t do it? Then what if you had to give money to someone else if you didn’t exercise? Hmm, now that just might do it!

Well if you need something to boost that drive to exercise, you might want to try out a couple of new apps called “RunKeeper” and “GymPact.” The app “RunKeeper” keeps track of your workout performance over a period of time.

The app “GymPact” provides rewards and punishments, based on the results of the “RunKeeper” app. So if you exercise and meet your goals, you get paid. But if you don’t, then the money goes to others who do follow through.

When you set your goals, you decide how often you will go to the gym and how much you are willing to pay if you don’t. You can also set it to reward you for riding a bike, walking and other physical activities.

But apparently it isn’t just money that can provide some incentive. “RunKeeper” also shares your accomplishments and failures through social media.

And so far it appears to be pretty successful, with a reported 86% of the users showing up to exercise. So maybe there is something to this.

Although money in itself can definitely be rewarding, there may be other ways you can kick up the motivation. Rewards can come in all forms. But it’s important to make sure it isn’t something that will be detrimental to what you have succeeded in physically.

In other words, rewarding yourself with a donut or an ice cream probably isn’t a good idea. But rewarding yourself with a new outfit or a new CD might be.

Another idea is to start putting away a little money every week. Set a goal, three months from now. Once you meet the goal, you get to take the money you saved and splurge.

Do you reward yourself for exercising?
