My girlhood crush (okay, one of them) wants to be a daddy… and he is not waiting around to find the perfect partner to procreate with. Singer/actor Ricky Martin just announced he plans to adopt a child. Martin, who isn’t married, says he doesn’t expect to receive special treatment in the adoption process, but hopes he is united with a child sooner rather than later.
“I want to do it right,” Martin said. “I don’t want any problems or misunderstandings. … Some think as celebrities we can manipulate the system to have a quicker adoption.”
And once he does become a single dad don’t expect him to stop with just one child. Martin says he is considering adopting “one from each continent” if possible.
“It’s something we want to begin to create this year, a family of many colors,” the 35-year-old pop star told reporters Wednesday in Puerto Rico.
So who is the “we” Martin is referring to? The singer wouldn’t elaborate, though his on again, off again 10-year relationship with girlfriend Rebecca de Alba, a Mexican TV personality has been well documented.
While Martin waits for word on his newest family member, former Roseanne star Sara Gilbert is already celebrating the birth of her latest addition.
The 32-year-old actress and her partner Allison Adler welcomed daughter Sawyer Gilbert Adler last week. The couple already has a 3-year-old son, Levi. This was Gilbert’s first pregnancy. (Adler carried Levi.)
You can see Gilbert back on TV this fall on NBC’s “ER.”
In other celebrity baby news, Helena Bonham Carter and her beau, director Tim Burton, and are expecting their second child together, according to the actress’ rep.
Their baby is reportedly due in December and will join 3-year-old brother, Billy Raymond Burton.
You’ll recall Burton and Bonham Carter first worked together when he directed her for 2001’s Planet of the Apes.
