Ring Around The Rosie

Rosie O’Donnell has made it no secret that she wants to replace Bob Barker on “The Price Is Right.” What she may not have realized is that she isn’t the only big name in Hollywood that has secretly pined to fill Barker’s shoes.

Media sources say sitcom star Drew Carey could end up with the game show gig. The star of “The Drew Carey Show” and “Whose Line is it Anyway?” has reportedly met with the game show’s producers and CBS regarding the possibility of taking over for the now retired Barker.

So now Rosie has stars circling her old job on “The View” and the new one she wants.

Word of Carey’s desire for Barker’s gig follows closely on the heels of O’Donnell’s own meeting this week with show producers and network execs. In a recent post on her personal website, O’Donnell said: “I don’t know if it’s going to work out. Frankly, talking to real people would be better than having to talk to celebrities, so it would be good for me…but I don’t know if it would be right for them.”

Barker himself commented about O’Donnell’s public campaign for his job at last week’s Daytime Emmy Awards, saying, “There’s no doubt in my mind she could do the show.” But days later Barker qualified his statement by saying that he was not endorsing O’Donnell and added: “I have not been asked for my opinion, nor have I expressed one. I think there are several candidates who could do the show, and Rosie is certainly one of them.”

O’Donnell may not be convinced. Earlier this week while on stage during the Cyndi Lauper “True Colors” tour she told fans that her meeting with CBS execs may be moot because they want the “weatherman” and not me. From what I can gather O’Donnell was referring to “The Early Show’s” weather personality Dave Price.

To read my take on the other candidates up for Barker’s former job click here. As for the outspoken O’Donnell, I can’t imagine she would get the job, simply because CBS could not possibly afford her—not her salary per say—just the fact that Rosie has a propensity to be overly generous. I can just see her feeling sorry for all the contestants who didn’t make it out of contestant’s row. She would probably give them all new cars just for trying.
