What can a child learn in 70 minutes? How about vowels, short vowel sounds, beginning consonants, ending blends, sound out words, digraphs, trigraphs, long vowel sounds, silent e, and a foundation for phonics and reading. Sounds impossible? It does to me! That is why the makers of Rock N Learn did not enlist my help when developing their DVD; Phonics Volume 1. Giving a child a base for phonics and reading in 70 minutes is an ambitious goal. Perhaps too ambitious even for Rock N Learn? I’m not sure “too ambitious” are words used together in the Rock N Learn world.
Phonics Volume 1 was developed of children ages 5 and up who are beginning phonics instruction. Through rhymes and music your child will be swept away by short vowels and silent e. Rock N Learn’s intent was not to simply watch the DVD once to magically attain the secret behind phonics, spelling and reading. However, much is learned after even one viewing. The methods allow for a child to quickly understand and catch on to basic phonics skills. My daughter learned quite a bit from just one viewing. The songs and rhymes stay with you which is a sneaky way to enforce the repetition required for learning these skills.
Features that make this DVD a must have:
Delayed answers which serves to involve the child in the program.
An “on-screen” mouth to aid the child in pronunciation.
Stories which reinforce lesson taught on the DVD.
Allows for independent practice of skills.
So fun and lively the child will enjoy watching it and gleam knowledge effectively and easily.
Free study materials to go along with the DVD are available at Free-Phonics-Worksheets.com.
