Thrill seekers have one more reason to celebrate this summer. If the invitation to explore the inner workings of the human body wasn’t enough to excite you, perhaps getting the chance to fly down a 155-foot-high Led Zeppelin inspired roller coaster will.
The new thrill ride will be the star attraction at Hard Rock Park, which is slated to open later this month in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The 140-acre rock ‘n’ roll theme park will feature 40 attractions, including rides, restaurants, stores and live shows.
To get the festivities off to a slammin’ start park officials are auctioning off tickets to ride the new Led Zeppelin mega-coaster that blasts the band’s hit single “Whole Lotta Love” while riders twist and turn through a maze of curves and loops. The park is auctioning 15 tickets online through April 7th, with all proceeds going to charity. Winners will not only get to brag that they were the first to ride the coaster they will also get a commemorative photo, free park admission and an autographed Led Zeppelin poster.
Does this man ever rest?
When he’s not kicking around the idea of joining next season’s celebrity line-up on “Dancing with the Stars” or helping to run the restaurants he has invested in such as the mega-popular Nobu and Ago (which just opened in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino), award-winning actor Robert De Niro is adjusting to life as a hotelier.
The movie star’s new lodging, named The Greenwich Hotel, opened earlier this week in the Big Apple. De Niro is the co-owner of the property, which is located in the actor’s favorite NYC neighborhood TriBeCa.
If you go expect to choose from 88 rooms and suites that have been individually decorated, with no two alike. Each room features hardwood floors, Tibetan rugs, and bathrooms that include Moroccan tile or Italian marble.
Prior to the grand opening De Niro said the idea behind opening such a unique lodging was “to create a space that would serve guests more as a residence than a hotel; a place for people whose sense of home combines sophistication and authenticity.”
Rates for a night in a one-of-a-kind room start at around $500.
Oh, did I mention the price includes having your hometown newspaper delivered daily to your room?
