It’s being called the “most startling news to hit the heavy-metal circuit since Ozzy Osbourne bit the head off a bat.” Frugal Felicia’s REJOICE— you’re in for a real treat this summer. The “Prince of Darkness” and mastermind behind Ozzfest is taking his show on the road again this summer, but this time tickets for the Rock-a-Rama will be FREE.
Osbourne and his wife Sharon made the announcement yesterday saying: “It’s our 12th year and we wanted to shake it up a bit and do something different.”
The couple clarified that it’s not just one show that fans will be allowed in free of charge. Rather, loyal rockers will be able to see Ozzy perform for free on each stop of his 25-city tour. Sharon Osbourne told news reporters the act of kindness was precipitated by Ozzfest’s rising ticket prices. In years past tickets have ranged in price from $35 to $150. Osbourne’s wife said her husband didn’t want admission prices to rise beyond the reach of die-hard Ozzy fans.
“It’s not saying that I’m now Mother Teresa or that Ozzy is a saint, but you know what? He’s been doing this a long time and his audience has been really good to him,” Sharon Osbourne told reporters. “So if he goes out one summer of his life and he doesn’t get paid, big deal.”
Osbourne also revealed that she has been actively wooing corporate sponsors to cover the cost of the tour. As of Tuesday, six have signed up.
If you are interested in seeing Ozzy perform for free, here are the tour dates: Ozzfest kicks off July 7 in Los Angeles, then hits the road with stops in San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Dallas, New York, St. Louis and several other cities. A final list of dates and stops is still in the works. In addition, Osbourne’s wife would not reveal who will be joining her husband on stage, but did say the line up will include numerous “special guests” who will drop in for one or two shows.
