Role Models – Re-Purposing Them In Your Life

Role models are people who capture our imagination because they demonstrate success at levels we believe that we can only dream about. Our role models may be rich and wealthy like Donald Trump or Bill Gates. They may have tremendous fame like Julia Roberts, Princess Diana and Brad Pitt.

The thing about role models that makes them so great is that they are living proof that provides us with reassurance that greatness can be accomplished. Whether they work with personal trainers, financial advisors or agents – their success is what makes them a role model for you.

Re-Purposing Your Role Models

You’ve probably already thought of someone who fulfills your definition of a role model. It may be your mother, your father, your grandparents, an actor, a humanitarian or someone else. Recognizing who your role model is the first step in re-purposing them in your life.

The following exercise is designed to help you identify and re-purpose your role models in order to utilize them in your goals from fitness goals to weight loss to life success goals.

Exercise:

  • Identify 1 to 3 individuals that you consider to be role models
  • Consider the qualities they possess that makes them your role models
  • Make a list of the strengths you see in them
  • Take your role model and put it in the situation or challenge you are facing
  • Roleplay through writing how they would cope in your situation
  • Select from the best of these and build a game plan for yourself

Visualization exercises are ideal when it comes to helping yourself build a focus and a purpose to meeting your challenges head on. So whether you are looking for motivation to stay on your fitness program or inspiration to help you meet the challenge of your weight loss, building endurance or getting ready for a triathlon or marathon – your role model can help you make it.

Your role model can be your boost. They say that history can teach us and if looking at the history of your role model and how they have faced and mastered their challenges can provide you with nothing else, it can show you a path that was traveled successfully.

For some, that may be inspiration enough.

Who do you consider your role models? How could they help you achieve your fitness goals in life?
