Romantic Movies

Planning an evening for just you and your spouse? Whether you are staying in or going out, the following movies are ideal for romantic evenings where love, commitment and passion are keys.

  • Casablanca – This Humphrey Bogart classic is best seen in the original black & white. The passion between Rick and Ilsa cannot be denied. Nor can the beauty of his love when he chooses to let her go. She may care for her husband, but Rick is the love of her life and he is hers. Sometimes loving someone means letting them go to live a better and safer life. Casablanca speaks to the old style romantic in all of us.
  • Must Love Dogs – This underrated romantic comedy pairs Diane Lane with the wonderful John Cusack. It highlights the love, compassion and quirkiness that binds families together. It also points out that we can discover love in the most unlikeliest of places and that sometimes, what we think we want is not always what we really want or what we really need. Love takes a certain amount of blind faith and the willingness to leap.
  • Just Like Heaven – Reese Witherspoon is magnificent in this film that brings two powerfully lonely souls together. Love may prove their salvation, but first they have to get past the many obstacles in their path – including his grief and her incorporeal form. Love comes in many forms – sometimes we cannot see what is staring us in our face.
  • The Thomas Crown Affair – This movie combines action, passion, mind games and the sexiness that is Rene Russo pitted against Pierce Brosnan. It shows how you can have everything in the world and how empty that world can be without love and passion to share your world with. This movie does have a few risqué scenes, but it’s more than worth the wild ride to watch two powerhouse characters collide and the fallout that shakes them both.

Rent a movie, fix up some popcorn and a cold drink. Put the kids to bed and load up the films. Romantic movies can give you time away and remind you of the compassion, passion, companionship and love that you and your spouse share.
