Romantic “Sweet” Spots

Attention Valentine’s Day lovebirds in need of a place to spend the big holiday… here are a few sweet spots you and your honey may want to check out tomorrow.

In the heart of the “City of Brotherly Love” you will find what is arguably the most popular sculpture in Philadelphia. LOVE by artist Robert Indiana, debuted in John F. Kennedy Plaza during the America’s Bicentennial celebration. It’s a sweet spot to take a love day photo. Once you’ve captured that moment on film, head over to The Grill at the Philadelphia Ritz-Carlton. It’s one of the city’s top places to spend a romantic evening dining on chocolate. No, I’m not suggesting you gorge yourselves on the dessert menu. Rather, you can feast on four entrees that contain chocolate.

The hotel’s chef took chocolates from all over the world and found recipes to complement them. For example, one of the dishes on the Valentine’s Day menu is black bass with a sweet and sour sauce (the chocolate’s in the sauce). Another entrée features grilled flank steak with chocolate chipotle sauce.

Since Valentine’s Day falls of a Wednesday this year, many couples are postponing their celebrations until the weekend. If you are still looking for a romantic getaway you may consider visiting the Tomasello Winery in Hammonton, New Jersey. There you and your sweetie will get a crash course in what wine goes well with chocolate. The 70-acre winery was started in 1933, and has been pairing chocolate and wine for the past four years.

If you want to treat your sweetie to a really sweet treat then head to Atlantic City. The city known for its boardwalk and casinos is also home to the largest candy department store in the nation–IT’SUGAR. The store contains 6,000 square feet of candy! They have over 5,000 types of candy and 250 types of ice cream. And, the best part: the chance to make your own candy bar. The process takes about 15 minutes and when it’s done you can sink your teeth into your own chocolate creation. You can pick milk, white or dark chocolate or mix them, then add as many fancy extras you want from jelly beans, gummy worms, nuts, skittles, raisins and more.

If your Valentine is a real chocoholic you may be better off purchasing the store’s largest sweet treat–an 11-pound candy bar (it retails for $65), which can be decorated with any (and every) candy in the store.
