NFL star Tony Romo has displayed some sweet moves on the field, but they aren’t helping him too much in the romance department.
The Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback and his new gal pal Jessica Simpson are reportedly still going strong despite rumors that the singer’s father is constant meddling in their relationship.
The former Mrs. Nick Lachey started dating the Pro Bowler two months ago after being set up by her dad Joe Simpson. Apparently, the Simpson family patriarch is a huge Tony Romo fan and wanted his precious daughter to make something happen with the football star.
Joe’s attempts at playing Cupid were successful, but now Papa Simpson won’t stop interfering and insiders claim his constant presence is endangering the fledgling romance. The source cited Tony and Jessica’s infamous Mexico getaway as just one example where Joe played third wheel yet again.
One family friend recently told Life and Style Weekly magazine: “It’s weird that Joe was on vacation with them. But he oversteps his bounds all the time, and Jess lets him.”
Just ask Lachey and Simpson’s former flame John Mayer whom she dated post divorce. According to Life and Style sources, “Joe just can’t leave Jess’ love life alone. His over protectiveness has always caused huge problems in Jessica’s relationships.”
Luckily for the Jessica her new man appears to be happy indulging her father… at least for now.
Life and Style reports that Tony “just laughed” when he heard Jessica’s parents were joining them in Cabo for what was supposed to be a romantic rendezvous. Insiders say Romo realizes his girlfriend’s father is one of his biggest fans, and he wants to have a good relationship with him so he is not making an issue of his presence with Jessica—-just yet.
However, one Simpson source told the magazine that it wouldn’t be long before Romo would tire of working his moves on Jessica with her father looking on.
“Tony likes Joe, but at some point he’s going to get sick of Joe hanging around and all the calls and family get-togethers,” said the Simpson family informant.
If you watched even a single episode of MTV’s reality show starring Simpson and Lachey then you know this latest report involving Joe Simpson is legit. And it does raise an interesting point about family dynamics. I think it’s great that Jessica loves her parents, but how much is too much parental involvement? Oh wait, I know… when it contributes to the break up of your first marriage and no one seems the wiser as a result.
