Michele and I have written many blogs about Bob Barker ending his successful run on “The Price is Right.” After all, as Bob has said, he is 83 and wants to retire before he gets too old. So the big question is…who is going to replace him?
There have been all types of rumors as to who the next host might be. My favorite is Mario Lopez. That would certainly have me tuning in every day or at least setting the DVR to record the show! But, it does not seem that he is a true candidate. Michele had mentioned that the forerunners are Todd Newton (from E!), Mark Steines (of “Entertainment Tonight”), John O’Hurley (the “Dancing with the Stars” standout), and my personal favorite of the bunch, actor George Hamilton.
When I think of someone to replace Bob, I think of someone nice, someone congenial, someone that the crowd is naturally going to be attracted to and love. So imagine my surprise when Bob Barker said this week that Rosie O’Donnell is a possible successor. Rosie “I am in your face whether you like it or not” O’Donnell? Rosie “Let me see how many people I can rub the wrong way and fight with” O’Donnell? Am I the only one appalled by the possibility of this? My mouth literally fell open when I read this. Bob has said he is not sure CBS is looking for a woman to replace him, but in my opinion, if they chose Rosie, they would not be getting a woman anyhow – they would be getting a pit bull! But Bob did say CBS was going to meet with her. He has had a long running friendship with Rosie and said she told him once that she would love to host “The Price is Right” one day.
It is only my opinion, but if Rosie gets “The Price is Right,” CBS can count on me never watching the show again. I have loved it for years with Bob and will continue to watch, but not if Rosie replaces Bob. How do you feel? Is “The Price is Right” a good venue for Rosie or not?
