Isn’t it amazing to realize all that kids “need” today to go back to school? From clothing to notebooks, shopping for back to school can really add up. But one of the ways to save is by taking advantage of sales tax holidays for back to school items.
What are sales tax holidays? Well some states offer a period of time (usually a week, but it can be longer or shorter) in which items purchased for school are sold without tax. The dates and the rules about which items qualify vary by state. Some states exclude athletic wear, for example, and most limit the purchase price of single items (only an item of clothing priced under $200, for example). Tax-free items may include clothing, books and even computer equipment.
Usually the sales tax holidays occur during the first week of August, so now is the time to take advantage of them!
