Sandra Bullock and the Taylors Score Big at the People’s Choice Awards

If you’ve read my blogs, you know that I absolutely love the award season. It just kicked off with the 36th Annual People’s Choice Awards. Now some people scoff at the People’s Choice as not really awarding the most deserving people, but I figure it is important because the winners are chosen by the fans.

Sandra Bullock
may be starting what is her road to the Oscars last night with her win as Favorite Movie Actress for The Blind Side. She beat out some pretty stiff competition – Jennifer Aniston, Kristen Stewart, Drew Barrymore, and Anne Hathaway. Another Bullock film, The Proposal, won Favorite Comedy Movie. However, Bullock and co-star Ryan Reynolds lost the Favorite On-Screen Team to those pesky little Twilighters Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner.

And speaking of Twilight, the film and its stars ran away with quite a few awards last night (not that that was a big surprise). The film won Favorite Franchise and Favorite Movie while Taylor Lautner won Favorite Breakout Movie Actor. As we watched the show, my husband was pulling for Zachary Quinto (and I was secretly as well), but I told him “Nope, the Twilight werewolf kid is going to get it.” Okay, judging from the screaming teenage girls in the audience, that prediction didn’t really make me psychic.

However, Robert Pattinson lost out to Johnny Depp in the Favorite Movie Actor category. I guess at least in some categories the older crowd can beat out the teens. But not in the case of Favorite Female Artist, which went to another Taylor – Taylor Swift.

Other winners of the night were Up (Favorite Family Movie), Hugh Jackman (Favorite Action Star), Jim Carrey (Favorite Comedic Star), Miley Cyrus (Favorite Breakout Movie Actress), Keith Urban (Favorite Male Artist), Carrie Underwood (Favorite Country Artist), Lady GaGa (Favorite Breakout Music Artist and Favorite Pop Artist), Favorite Independent Movie (Inglourious Basterds), “True Blood” (Favorite TV Obsession), “House” (Favorite TV Drama), “Big Bang Theory” (Favorite TV Comedy), Hugh Laurie (Favorite TV Drama Actor), Katherine Heigl (Favorite TV Drama Actress), Steve Carell (Favorite TV Comedy Actor), Alyson Hannigan (Favorite TV Comedy Actress), “American Idol” (Favorite Competition Show), “The Vampire Diaries” (Favorite New TV Drama), “Glee” (Favorite New TV Comedy), “The Dog Whisperer” (Favorite Animal Show), “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” (Favorite Talk Show), “Supernatural” (Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show), Paramore (Favorite Rock Band), Run This Town (Favorite Music Collaboration), Mariah Carey (Favorite R&B Artist), Ashton Kutcher (Favorite Web Celeb), and Eminem (Favorite Hip-Hop Artist).
