Well I am happy to report that in a week and a half, I have lost four pounds. To see the results right there on my TV screen is very encouraging. I have been making a lot of changes to my life. The biggest change is finding time to exercise for at least 30 minutes every day. Wii Fit Plus has been a life saver for me.
I love the variety of exercises, the way you can tailor your own fitness routine and how much fun it is. I have never so enjoyed working out as much as I do now. I have also continued a 30 minute walking routine, at least three to four times per week. The other day my husband and I walked for 50 minutes and I felt pretty good that I was able to do it so easily.
I have also been really watching what I eat. Just the other morning I was eating a bowl of Special K cereal and looking at Facebook. I was scrolling through everyone’s statuses and ran across this one from Pete Thomas. His status mentioned reading something from a book called “The Blue Zones.” It was that you should eat until you are no longer hungry, instead of eating until you are full.
The funny thing is that as soon as I read those words, the spoon stopped midair and I thought to myself, “Am I no longer hungry?” I realized that I wasn’t. However, I was actually waiting until I felt full. Now this concept that Pete Thomas mentioned in his Facebook status is really good.
Think about it. Many of us believe that if we just eat until we are full, we are good. However, full can be an uncomfortable feeling. Full seems to put the focus on getting as much as you can. But when you change it up and only eat until you are no longer hungry, you are focusing on satisfaction. What if we all ate until we were satisfied? Satisfaction is a good feeling. It isn’t eating until you are sick.
Sometimes it really is all about perspective. We may need to change the way we look at things in order to make changes in our life. Some of our views on food and fitness are really screwed up, so think of ways that you can make your fitness pursuits more satisfying.
