I love to snack. I could sit with a bag of tortilla chips or potato chips and eat half the bag only to come back the next day and eat the other half. To maintain a healthy weight and heart this is not a good habit. So, I basically gave up on chips. I come from a background of unusually high cholesterol. The members of my family are quite cholesterol challenged so I always knew this would be a concern of mine. There is no freedom to snack when you have concerns such as weight and cholesterol or is there?
Always on the quest for fun food that is good for you, I have come across Corazonas. Corazonas tagline is “Freedom to Snack”. Well, wouldn’t that be nice. I would just once like to bite into something diet and not be reminded I was eating diet or an alternative food. I have discovered some wonderful products during my quest. However, my search is for the impossible. My search is for a snack I would enjoy without compromise. I want to forget for a moment that I am doing something healthy.
So there I stood. Ready to be dissatisfied. Ready to throw the bag of tempting tortillas across the room in a desperate act of discouragement. I looked at the bag and it said “Love your Heart, Love the Taste”. Yeah, well we will see about that. Could it be possible that Black Bean and Cheese Tortilla Chips which contain plant sterols to reduce cholesterol would taste like something other than paper with seasoning sprinkled on? I tore the bag open ready to devour gluten free, 18 grams of whole grain, all natural, zero trans fat serving of chips. With a disgusted look on my face I took my first bite. I then grew wroth with anger. Someone had tricked me. Someone replaced the paper with seasoning with real tortilla chips. That could be dangerous to a woman trying to lose weight and gain self control. Who could have done something like that?
Ready for a fight I grabbed the bag of potato chips. The bag of potato chips had not left my sight so either someone at the factory replaced them or this is the real thing. I tore the bag open and bit into a heart healthy chip fully expecting to have to spit out. What is this company trying to pull? Do they lure you in with crunchy, tasty, can’t have just one, potato chips only to give you the paper alternative later after you are hooked? You remember what it is like to eat a potato chip? The crunch, the salt, the flavor, the feeling you can’t put the bag down while enjoying every bite until you weigh yourself the next morning? Yeah, Corazonas has that.
I am not sure how they do it but they make a chip that is healthy and is really a chip. The black bean and cheese tortilla is now a family favorite and good even without salsa. I am thinking of using it in my tortilla soup. WOW.
