I don’t know about you, but I am very ready to start some fall decorating. The cooler air is here, and the leaves are starting to fall. But, like everyone else, I really don’t want to spend money if I don’t have to do so. How will you be doing your fall decorating? Here is my game plan.
First of all, I am going to take a trip up to the attic to see what I have available. I have a small tub marked “Fall,” and it contains some decorations, as well as the kids fall stuff. Basing my decoration on what I already have will reduce the expense. I know for example, that I have some lovely fall colored strands of “berries.” I can use these to wrap around or in ordinary objects, such as vases, to make them more like fall.
Next, I am going to go around my home and see what I can repurpose for fall decorating. I have a pumpkin shaped votive holder in my family room that can become more of a focus, and I have several candles that might work, in the colors of rust and cream. I can also use a burgundy table cloth by folding it differently and using it as a runner or a backdrop on our living room windowsill. Basically, anything that looks like fall or is in a fall color may work if creatively grouped and placed.
I have a couple of small ceramic loaf pans with leaf decorations on them. These can serve. I can further enhance a table by using my cast iron muffin pan that makes muffins (or corn bread) in the shape of acorns. The pan can standby itself, or I can use it to actually make the muffins for both decorating and eating!
Outside there is a wealth of possible decorations, such as seed pods, small twigs and colorful leaves. The leaves will last a few days as is, or they can be fixed with sealer or ironed between waxed paper to make them last longer.
Next up, I’ll share my favorite stores to shop for inexpensive and discounted fall decorations.
