This thanksgiving was a really rushed one. We had a crisis in the family and would up having to put together a last minute Thanksgiving meal. One thing that went very quickly were the fancy cookies that I purchased. Everyone loves cookies, whether purchased or homemade. They really are a holiday staple. Here are some tips on how we can all save on the cost of cookies.
Store Bought Cookies
Shop at a warehouse store. Warehouse grocery stores, such as Costco, BJs or Sam’s Club often offer holiday cookies at discounted prices. You can find all sorts of cookies, from fancy ones in a gift tin to everyday chocolate chip cookies. Usually the cookies are prepackaged into smaller packages within a bulk package.
You can also save money on holiday cookies when you combine sales with coupons to get a great deal. Don’t wait until you need the cookies for a party or other entertaining. Instead, stock up on them as the deals become available.
Bread outlets are another great source of discounted holiday cookies. Pepperidge Farm is a popular manufacturer that offers “thrift” stores with cookies up to 90 percent off.
Home Made Cookies
If you like to make home made cookies from scratch, then you are already half way there with saving money. Now you just have to get some more discounts on the ingredients.
Before you get started, make a list of all of the ingredients you will need and then purchase what you can in bulk. You can save at least 30 percent off of the top that way. Stock up on other ingredients using coupons and sales, too.
Remember that generic ingredients are often the same quality as the name brand products. Decide on which items have to be name brand, such as a brand of real vanilla extract or chocolate chips and which ingredients can be generic, such as sugar or salt. This way you can save some money on the ingredients where there is no noticeable difference besides price.
