Save Money through Repurposing

Everyone is looking to save money these days. We tend to not be so quick to throw something out because you just never know when it might come in handy.

Well let me introduce you to the idea of repurposing, which is similar to recycling. The difference is that you are extending the life of something and finding a new way to use it.

This sometimes requires making some changes to the item, such as cleaning or painting it. Other times you are using it in its original form, however, in a brand new way.

Think of it this way. What is the purpose of a tire? It helps your car to roll. What if you use an old tire as a swing? Its original purpose wasn’t for this, so what you are doing is repurposing it.

Repurposing not only saves you money but it protects the environment. It prevents you from wasting perfectly good items.

That brings me to one my favorite sites where I can find tons of ideas on repurposing…Pinterest. In the search box all you have to do is type in “repurpose” and you will find so many great ideas. It’s really quite inspirational.

After searching online for a variety of ideas, I have seen some really clever ways of repurposing. I have seen a ladder turned into a shelf, old doors turned into a headboard, an antique birdcage turned into a lamp, champagne flutes turned into candle holders, shutters turned into letter/mail holders, and an old cheese grater turned into a pencil holder.

If you are filled with your own creative juices, you can probably look around your home and come up with all different ideas for repurposing. But if you don’t have it in you to create something new out of something old, take some time searching the internet and you will be surprised (and perhaps inspired) at what you see.
