Save Money When Cleaning Wood

I have a little trick for you that I think you are going to like. If you have wood in your house to clean, such as trim, doors, panelling and furniture, you can take advantage of this idea.

I’m always at a loss when it comes to cleaning wood. I’ve tried so many different products. In fact, there is a whole collection of things sitting on one of my shelves down in the basement, next to my regular stockpile. I’m always so worried that some cleaners might be too harsh for the wood, and others I have tried just don’t do a great job of cleaning. Still others, the polishers, leave behind a waxy mess that builds up over time and gets into the crevices.

But I am very excited, because I have recently discovered this little trick that not only solves the “how to clean wood problem,” but it also is very frugal!

Instead of buying those expensive and messy wood cleaners, wood soaps or wood polishes, try using baby wipes. They clean the wood beautifully and seem to pick up much more dirt than do the standard collection of wood cleaners and polishers. Plus, since I always have the baby wipes out anyway, it is easy to grab one and spruce something up on the spur of the moment, such as when i am chatting on the phone, waiting for the kids to put their shoes on for an outing, etc.

If you want to save even more, you can even make your own wood cleaner that is based on homemade baby wipes. Simply fill a spray bottle with a squirt of baby oil, a squirt of baby soap and water. Spray a washcloth and use that to clean your wood. It is pretty easy and very gentle.
