Summer is primetime for beach-themed scrapbooks. Scrapbook shops and craft stores are filled to the gills with seasonal embellishments designed to spice up seasonal spreads. From beach umbrellas and palm tree stickers to bikini die cuts and tropical libation-shaped rubber stamps, there is no shortage of beach-themed frills to add to page designs.
However, if you are short on cash, then stocking up on the aforementioned embellishments may not be possible. Fortunately, you don’t have to dig too deep to find unique touches to add to your summer beach scrapbook. Rather, you just need to exercise some creativity and you will be well on your way to making memorable layouts that won’t break the bank.
To start, take an inventory of your scrapbook material stash. Often you can recycle items you already have and tweak them a bit so they fit a specific theme. For example, you can easily make a beach ball from patterned paper or different colored cardstock. Simply add details with a fine tipped black pen or pieces of chalk.
Another simple and affordable way to add pizzazz to your beach-themed layouts is to add flocking powder to pieces of cardstock to resemble a beach towel or blanket. The fuzzy texture adds a wonderful dimension to the embellishment and doesn’t cost much at all to make.
If you are artistically inclined, you could opt to paint a beach scene onto a traditional piece of scrapbook paper. The masterpiece doesn’t need to include fancy drawings; rather, feature your best take on a favorite memory, from basic waves to a sun made from watercolor print patterned paper.
In my latest beach-themed scrapbook, I used flocking powder to add texture to a rubber stamp image of a bikini and blanket. I also printed out clip art of various beach items, from sunglasses to shovels and added some glitter and sequins in order to make them pop.
