Save Your Resources: Household Items

Buckle down and save the things that you already have. With the following tips, you’ll avoid having to waste the valuable resources that you already own.

Regular cleaning and maintenance go a long way to avoiding waste around the house. Just vacuuming your carpet once a week (or more for heavy traffic) can extend its life by 50 percent! Read all of your product manually and find out exactly how to care for the things that you own. This way, everything will continuing looking like new and remaining the great assets that they were when you first purchased them.

Making small repairs now will avoid growing damage that may eventually wind up not being repairable. A small tear can turn into a large jagged rip, a spot of dampness on the shower ceiling can turn into a mold problem that requires replacing the entire dry wall. Nip small problems in the bud before they become huge money wasters.

Having an organized home will help you avoid waste as well. How many times have you ever bought another copy of something that you know you already had? Do you have several pairs of scissors, for example, because you keep misplacing the other pairs? If everything has a place, you’ll know exactly where to find it.

The same goes for bills. Do you wind up wasting “late fees” or “early discounts” when you pay something late? You don’t have to spend that money, so why would you want to? If you aren’t a natural organizer, pick up a couple of good books at the library or watch a couple of free videos for tips.

Another way to avoid wasting resources is to use them only when needed. You don’t need to burn light bulbs when you aren’t in a room, wear a favorite shirt while cleaning or eat a second helping when you aren’t really hungry.

Save your resources, and you’ll save your money.
