You may be caught up in back to school, but it still isn’t too late to enjoy a great vacation at the shore. I know because I am there right now. We have been having all sorts of fun on a limited budget. Yesterday I talked about rentals and food, now let’s get into to some more ways to save money at the shore.
Although bringing our own food has been a great way for us to save a lot of money, it is only natural that we would want a little treat now and then. Right next store to the house where we are staying just happens to be a soft serve ice cream place. We can look out of our window and see all of the people enjoying their chocolate-dipped cones. What is a mom to do?
Well, we could have brought a gallon of ice cream with us for the price of just a few cones, but it is the experience of being out at the shore and enjoying a store bought cone that everyone wanted. Our solution was to spring for the chocolate dip topping, but then just order kiddie cones. The size was large enough for the kids without waste. As for the adults, well I ordered a kiddie cone and my husband ordered a small adult cone.
We were both completely satisfied with the treat and thought anything larger would have been too much. Have you ever noticed that it is the first few bites of a treat that bring the most satisfaction? After that, we tend to continue to eat whatever is in front of us without noticing it much. Next time you are considering a real treat, whether it is an ice cream cone or a cafe latte, consider getting the smaller size down and see if it makes any difference in your level of satisfaction.
Check back again tomorrow, when I’ll talk about some free and low cost forms of entertainment.
