Saving Money at Work

Are you being frugal at work as well as at home? Here are some ways to save money when it comes to working outside of the home.

To reduce the cost of gas and wear and tear on your car, try one of these tips. Or, try them all!
Ask about telecommuting. Even if you only telecommute one day a week, you’ll save a lot on gas by the end of the year, especially if your commute is at least 40 minutes one way.

You can also ask about an alternative work schedule. Can you work four longer days and have the fifth one off? How about working just an hour longer each day for the chance to have a day off every other week? Would working on a weekend make the commute shorter because of less traffic? Less idling in traffic means less gas waste. Find out what your options are.

Carpool with co-workers or neighbors that work near your office. It will really add up in terms of gas and the life of your car. Ask around at your office or neighborhood or post a notice at work or online.
To reduce spending money at work, take a look at these ideas.

Bring your food. From breakfast to lunch to coffee to snacks, You can spend anywhere from $20 to $50 a day just on food. Think about it. I bet there are a lot better uses for that money, aren’t there? Avoid cafeterias and vending machines like the money grabbers they are. Don’t stop for coffee on the way to work. Instead, make your own coffee at home and bring it with you in a refillable thermos. You can refill the thermos with free coffee at work or water.

Some really frugal people take it to the next step, such as charging their phones and gadgets at work to avoid using the electricity at home, and waiting to use the bathroom at work. I’ll leave it up to you to decide what you think about that.
