Saving Money on Haircare

Haircuts, perms, and dying your hair can add up to being a big expense. I have a few suggestions to cut down on the cost of hair care.

1) One great way to save money is to go to a local beauty school to receive your services. You can receive the services at a heavily discounted rate. Another advantage is that there are instructors available to make sure that the students are doing the procedures correctly. If you are reluctant to go to a beauty school, I finally went because I was tired of the mediocre cuts that I was getting at the discount chains. It was always hit or miss. I know at a beauty school that there is an instructor there who can make any corrections that need to be made.

2) Another way to save money is to dye your hair yourself. It is not very difficult to do, and if you are interested in having highlights there are some very easy highlighting kits available on the market. You and a friend can take turns dying each other’s hair.

3) You can cut your children’s hair yourself. If you know anyone that cuts hair, ask her to teach you how to cut a simple boy’s cut. You can also learn how to trim straight hair pretty easily. This will work for your younger children, until they are old enough to want a specific haircut.

4) You can trade services with someone to save money on hair care. You might volunteer to baby sit for a night, or to cook a meal in exchange for a hair cut. I had a friend who exchanged her haircuts with someone for free massages.

5) Another way to save money is to have long hair. If you have long hair, you need a trim a lot less often than a shorter hairstyle. I tend to chop my hair off once a year, and then let it grow out.

What are some ways that you have saved money on hair care?
