Scalloped Potatoes

This is a great dish that can be changed many different ways. This is one of the first things that I learned to make. I will start with the basic recipe and share some creative ideas for this traditional recipe.

You will need:
6 Large Potatoes, sliced thin

1 medium onion, sliced

4 teaspoons butter

1 Cup Milk

Salt and Pepper to taste

5-7 slices of American Cheese

First, preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Peel and slice potatoes and place them in a greased two quart casserole dish. Add butter. Pour in milk then top with cheese. Salt and pepper. Bake covered in oven until potatoes test done.

Here are some suggestions:

If you are in a hurry, boil or steam potatoes and onions together. Then transfer to casserole dish. Add butter, 1/2 Cup of milk, salt and pepper to taste. Bake until the cheese is melted thoroughly.

Add ham to the potatoes before you bake it and dinner becomes a one dish meal. Add some rolls.

Fry bacon in a skillet. When thoroughly cooked, chop and place on top of the cheese. Bake as directed.

You can omit the cheese from this dish and bake as directed.

Add 3/4 Cup of chopped green peppers and red peppers, sweet or hot, what ever you like, and one can of condensed mushroom soup. Put potatoes in dish, add onions and peppers. Mix soup and milk together. Pour over potato, onion and green peppers. Bake as directed.

Instead of sliced cheese, add one can of cream of cheddar cheese soup.

You can add three different cheeses to this dish instead of one cheese. You could add parmesan, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, and shredded mozzarella cheese.

Top with sliced tomato

Sprinkle crushed herbed croutons on the top

If you have some suggestions, let me know.
