I have to admit that getting back to work yesterday wasn’t easy. I was able to rearrange my workload last week so that I could not only enjoy having Thanksgiving off but the day after as well. Those were two really glorious days because it has been literally months since I have enjoyed an entire day off during the week.
Because I have a variety of freelancing jobs, it is usually not possible to take off any one day during the week. Well, the reality is that it is possible but it takes some work to make it work. Somehow that doesn’t seem right…I have to work to make time off work.
At any rate, now that I was finally able to enjoy some time off I could really see the benefit in that. It is so easy to work every single day when I am doing what I love. I have found working from home to not be something that I have to discipline myself to do; rather it is something I have to discipline myself to not overdo.
I really planned things well for those two days I was off. Thanksgiving wasn’t until later on in the day and even though it was being held at my house; my mother did the main cooking. So I was able to sleep in and spend most of the morning just kind of lazing around. By early afternoon I had my dishes prepared and then late afternoon everyone came over.
Of course the best day was Friday. Not only did I sleep in but I spent the entire day watching movies and working on a cross-stitch project. It was just so incredibly relaxing.
It really helped to rejuvenate me. I had not realized until I took those two days off last week how much I really needed it.
So now I am looking forward to time off in December when my children are on their Christmas vacation. I have already started to make arrangements for that and while at first I was feeling a little guilty and wondering if I could stand taking off for five days, now that I enjoyed those couple of days last week, I know that not only can I do it but that I need it.
We all need time to take a break. We need time to decompress, to catch up on some sleep, work on some hobbies, and enjoy time with family. You may have other things on your list that will help you to recharge.
My point is that we all need time off. If you are a workaholic know that you will actually be more productive if you take a step away from it every-so-often. Now when do you plan on scheduling some time off?
