It is now officially fall. I love the weather! We go outside in the afternoons and a soft breeze feels wonderful!
Along with the coming of fall, many schools host fall festivals and carnivals. Each school has their own method of organizing such events.
Most carnivals or festivals include games and food.
It is very popular for all school events in my location to rent the huge blow-up jumpers for the children to jump on. Other small games such as pick up ducks and ring toss are also usually on the list.
Some schools host their events on Saturdays or afternoons after school. Other schools hold special events during the school day.
One school in my county holds its carnival or festival after school, usually on a Thursday. This never really seemed to work with me. I felt that it was too much rush and too late for students and faculty to be out on a school night. The school chose Thursday instead of Friday night due to the high school football games on Friday night. I am not exactly sure why Saturday was not an option.
Some other schools do choose to hold their event on a Saturday. The trouble with Saturdays is that teachers typically do not like to come back to school on the weekend to work at a school event. Many teachers already have plans with their own families.
The final option is to host the event during the school day. Some schools have tried this and like it. Teachers like the idea because they do not have to put in extra time. They are already at school. However it does take away from instructional time. The trouble for the children is money. On most occasions children who have parents that cannot or will not give them money just do not attend after school hours festivals. However that option is not available during school hour festivals. Therefore the children may be left out. The school in my county that has their festival during school hours usually takes up donations for children that cannot afford the games. An armband is sold for the children to play all games and the blow-up jumpers. The donations buy armbands for needy children.
