“Three is a magic number”, and this is a pretty magical CD. “School House Rock!, Rocks” is a compilation CD of all of your favorite songs from the hit 70’s Saturday Morning cartoon series. The difference, all of these songs are sung by popular 90’s rock bands. The result is a pretty fantastic CD that can allow you and your children to learn something while rocking out to some great music. The CD lineup includes:
Schoolhouse Rocky (Original Theme Music)- Bob Dorough And Friends
I’m Just A Bill- Deluxx Folk Implosion
Three Is A Magic Number- Blind Melon
Conjunction Junction- Better Than Ezra
Electricty, Electricty – Goodness
No More Kings- Pavement
The Shot Heard Around The World- Ween
My Hero, Zero – Lemoheads
The Energy Blues – Biz Markie
Little Twelvetones- Chavez
Verb: That’s Whats Happening- Moby
Interplanet Janet- Man Or Astro-Man
Lolly, Lolly Lolly, Get your Adverbs Here- Buffalo Tom
Unpack your Adjectives- Daniel Johnston
The Tale Of Mr. Morton- Skee-Lo
Each song is done is a style that takes the old classic and turns it into a contemporary rock song that both you and your children can enjoy. My personal favorite on the CD is The Tale of Mr. Morton, which is done as a rap song. No matter what your musical tastes you can probably find one cover on this CD that you enjoy.
The best part of this CD is while listening to it, your children are learning something. I’ve given the CD as a gift for several children in my family. When listening to “I’m just a Bill” they learn how a bill becomes a law, “The Tale Of Mr. Morton” teaches them how a sentence is put together. It’s much easier to remember one of your favorite songs during a test than weeks upon weeks of facts from the classroom.
