Scientology’s Big Payday and Another Celeb Visits the Psych Ward

Talk about tithing! Nancy Cartwright voices the character of Bart Simpson on “The Simpsons.” I know “The Simpsons” is a very successful show and has been on television for almost 20 years. Knowing these facts, it is no doubt that the people who voice the regular characters on the show make a lot of money.

However, I was surprised to learn that Nancy made a $10 million dollar donation to the Church of Scientology last year. For her donation, she was given the Patron Laureate Award. The $10 million it almost two times her yearly salary for “The Simpsons.” The donation puts her near the top of celebrity benefactors for the church. Nancy gave more in one year that megabucks Scientology lauder Tom Cruise. It may be a privilege to be a Scientologist, but reports are that Tom has given only $5 million to the church over the last four years. Maybe Scientology is going easy on that cash cow, as he seems to be the one that can give the most in the long run.

Impact magazine is reporting that Kirstie Alley gave $5 million last year and was awarded the Diamond Meritorious Award. John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston each gave $1 million and was given the Gold Meritorious Award. Priscilla Presley donated $50,000 and was given the Patrol Award. Impact says the awards were given out last summer at a top-secret ceremony in Florida.

Call me skeptical, but a religion that gives awards for donations seems…shady.

Remember when Spago was THE place to go in Los Angeles? Apparently, the UCLA Medical Center Psych was is now THE place to be seen, or at least it would seem so. After high profile patient Britney Spears checked in a couple of days ago, TMZ is now saying that “Grey’s Anatomy” star Justin Chambers had checked himself in earlier this week. Justin’s rep confirmed that he did check in on Monday because he was “exhausted and suffers from a sleeping disorder and went in voluntarily to get some help.” Justin is the father of five – I think I can understand the exhaustion! Anyhow, the actor checked out hours before Britney arrived.

You know, maybe if Justin and Britney donated enough money to Scientology, they would get better. You know, Scientologists are “the authorities on the mind”…according to Tom.
