Scrapbook Challenges

What is the most difficult part of putting together a scrapbook layout?

For some it’s finding just the right photos to tell a story. Others struggle to keep embellishments from taking over a design, while still others find it challenging to mix and match different scrapbook paper.

For me, one of the toughest parts of creating a memorable page design is coming up with a really amazing title. In my opinion, page titles are an essential part of a layout. While some opt to skip titles all together, I think they make layouts so much easier to understand. After all, a page with the title, “Emma’s First Christmas” leaves no room for misinterpretation or confusion. The viewer doesn’t have to scrutinize photos or read long journaling blocks to determine the topic of the page.

Of course, not all titles have to be as direct as “John and Emily’s Rehearsal Dinner” or “Grandma’s 100th Birthday.” Abstract titles work just as well in conveying a message about the page’s features. For example, “Home is Where the Heart Is” speaks for itself.

Titles also allow scrappers to exercise their creativity. There’s no need to limit yourself to traditional page titles when you can use memorable alliterations, funny puns or bold one-liners. If you can’t come up with an eye-catching title, then look online for inspiration. The Perfect Title is a great place to find original titles for your scrapbook layouts. In addition, Scrapbook.com has an extensive library of title ideas which are organized by theme, including travel, friendship, sports, family, and holidays. Another option is to visit Scrap Sayings or Scrapbook Creations. Both feature a complete database of unique offerings. Some of the suggestions come from poems or quotes, which can also be used as page titles. In fact, many scrappers use famous sayings as titles, especially for pages that feature special occasions such as weddings, birthdays and anniversaries.
