I am a huge fan of Shutterfly albums. While some call them an insult to scrapbooks, when you are in a hurry or simply don’t have the creative juices to craft a traditional memory album, the hardcover digitally generated books featuring your favorite photos and journaling, simply can’t be beat.
I like to refer to the albums as scrapbooks made easy. You simply can’t fail when crafting the digital albums, as the directions are a cinch to follow and the actual steps are short and sweet. Several companies offer these types of books, including Shutterfly and Snapfish, which have designed their sites so that even the most technologically challenged can create a gorgeous book with just a few clicks of the mouse.
One of the reasons Shutterfly’s albums are so popular with scrapbookers is because the company recently partnered with Creating Keepsakes magazine to offer stunning memory albums featuring a host of different themes. For example, just as you would a traditional digital scrapbook, you can design a themed album by simply dragging and dropping photos into existing templates. All of the work is done online and you can choose from a variety of themed backgrounds, from family vacations and weddings, to anniversaries, birthdays and baby showers. The embellishments are already featured on the page, including images of sand, surf and seashells for a beach vacation and baby rattles, letter blocks and bibs for a book with a newborn theme. In addition to the clip art and other appealing backgrounds, the books also include space for journaling and also offer the ability to resize photo boxes if you find that you don’t have the correct number of pictures for a particular page.
If you are an experienced digital scrapbooker, you can get a lot out of these memory albums. Shutterfly and Snapfish both offer the option to create scrapbook layouts from scratch. Doing so will take a bit longer than using the pre-made templates and background designs; however, if you like to control all aspects of scrapbook making, then this may be a good fit for your creativity.
