The holiday season provides a litany of opportunities to create memorable scrapbook layouts featuring your entire family, and I’m not just referring to the same ol’ boring page designs of people opening presents. Since most clans tend to gather for either Christmas or New Year’s Eve, don’t miss the chance to document and expand on your family’s favorite traditions. Forget about creating a chronological timeline of Christmas Day; rather, select a few standout events and tell the stories behind each.
Some special seasonal layout ideas include:
Caroling: You don’t have to participate in an elaborate Christmas caroling event around the neighborhood to make this idea work in your holiday scrapbook. Instead, craft a layout featuring Uncle Bob’s infamous Christmas Eve sing-a-long with all of the kids around the family piano or snap photos of your parents performing an informal duet of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”
Letter to Santa: Before Junior sends off his Christmas wish list to Santa, scan the letter and place a copy of it in your scrapbook. You could design an entire layout featuring the annual note by adding journaling blocks that include your child’s age and his non-material wishes for the season.
Seasonal Baking: Create a multi-page spread detailing your family’s tradition of holiday baking. Whether you’re planning to make 12 dozen snowball cookies or you have a family recipe for fruitcake that you never miss putting together, be sure to document the event by taking plenty of pictures. Also, don’t forget to add the recipes for the holiday treats in the layout, so future generations can carry on the baking tradition.
Christmas Cards: If you craft your own Christmas cards, be sure to include a sample or two in a layout. Then, round out the page design by including some of your favorite greetings from various family members. If the cards don’t come with a photo of the sender, be sure to get one and place it next to the featured holiday greeting.
