One of the Black Friday deals at my local scrapbook store was a Buy One Get One Free offer on embellishments. Given my love for Jolee’s Boutique 3D stickers it’s a no brainer what I used my coupon to purchase. Yes, more stickers. However, instead of purchasing yet another package of Christmas-themed stickers, I selected ones for a New Year’s Eve layout.
In fact, I was inspired to create a New Year’s Eve layout based on the stickers I purchased. I’m thinking of adding the champagne glass-shaped stickers to a black, gold or silver background, then bedazzling the page with glittery confetti and sparkly accessories, such as gems and eyelets. The sticker pack also comes with firework, party hat and noisemaker shaped stick-ons which I can use to embellish photos of my family and friends as we say goodbye to 2010 and usher in 2011.
Journaling is also a popular addition to New Year’s Eve layouts. Many people like to reflect back on the year gone by and jot down memorable moments or other highlights of the last 12 months. Journaling blocks can also be embellished with various scrapbook accessories, such as rub-ons or punch-outs with the words “Happy New Year” or “Celebrate.” If you live in a colder climate, then add some stars and snowflakes to the page design. Glitter paper works well for snowflake punch outs. You might also consider adding a clock or a photo of your little one dressed as Baby New Year. The possibilities are virtually endless.
The owner of the small scrapbook store I frequent hosts a scrapping party at her home on New Year’s Eve. She is an older woman, who doesn’t like to be on the roads after 5 p.m. on the last day of the year, so inviting like-minded friends and family members to her house to work on their scrapbooks is something she looks forward to. She put her 2009 layouts on display this year and I noticed that she used a lot of rub-on letters that spelled out popular sayings, such as “Let the Good Times Roll,” “Auld Lang Syne,” and “PARTY!”
The holidays give you the opportunity to personalize your memories in a variety of ways. What will your New Year’s Eve layouts look like?
