I got into scrapbooking long before it went mainstream. However, I took a very long hiatus from making memory books during my college years and subsequent time as a swinging single. It wasn’t until I got hooked on Rosie O’Donnell’s daytime talk show that I got inspired to scrap again.
As you might already know, the former daytime talk show queen is also considered royalty in the scrapbook industry thanks to her endless chatter about her obsession with scrapping. Back when she had her own talk show, Rosie would spend at least part of her host chat discussing her latest layout. She also would talk ad nauseam about her habit of crafting one new page for each of her four children’s scrapbooks before she went to bed each night.
That fact shocks me to this day. I barely have time to shower and brush my teeth at night–every night–so the idea of designing a new page before I hit the hay is not something I think I could pull off. Still, the goal is always in the back of my mind.
According to Rosie, she fills the page with current events as documented by newspapers and magazines, and she always includes at least one or two funny quotes from her kids. That’s the part that inspires me the most. If you are a parent, then you know how irresistible it is to document your kid’s funniest sayings.
I wish I had the foresight to jot down all of my daughter’s hilarious quotes. She had some real zingers when she was about three years old. I documented some of them, but there are a ton more that are gone like the wind. Scrapbooks are ideal places to preserve your child’s funniest moments, whether they are verbal or physical. The trick is remembering to write them down as soon as they happen, so you can go back and place them in your scrapbook when you have the time.
