A few years ago I joined the Confraternity of Christian Mothers… and I’ve never felt more inadequate about parenting.
Kidding.
Sort of.
Not really.
The women in the group are saints and I am a better person for knowing them. Executing the same patience and humility as they do, well, let’s just say I’m a work in progress.
Despite the fact that the group’s name centers on the blessing of motherhood, we also discuss marriage and the sanctity of the sacrament. During a recent get-together a few of the younger moms shared their wedding scrapbooks, many of which included incredibly moving quotes and poems related to love and matrimony. While the photos were the main attraction on the layouts, the carefully chosen words were just as touching.
Some of my favorites included:
“There are three things that last: faith, hope and love, and the greatest of these is love.” –I Corinthians 13:13
“True love stories never have endings.” –Richard Bach
“The highest happiness on earth is marriage.” –William Lyon Phelps
“When you make a sacrifice in marriage, you’re sacrificing not to each other but to unity in a relationship.” –Joseph Campbell
“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.” –Mignon McLaughlin
“Celebrate the joys of today, the memories of yesterday, and the hopes of tomorrow.” –Author Unknown
Grow Old Along With Me
Author: John Lennon, based on a poem by Robert Browning
Grow old along with me
The best is yet to be
When our time has come
We will be as one
God bless our love
God bless our love
Grow old along with me
Two branches of one tree
Face the setting sun
When the day is done
God bless our love
God bless our love
Spending our lives together
Man and wife together
World without end
World without end
Grow old along with me
Whatever fate decrees
We will see it through
For our love is true
God bless our love
God bless our love
