Scream-o-ween Attractions

I parent a young child, who is petrified of all things related to Halloween, save for the candy. However, I realize there are some kids, who not only embrace the bloody zombies and grotesque gargoyles that haunt the holiday, but actively seek them out.

If your child loves to get his scare on this time of year, then consider the following spooktacular events:

SCREAMS HALLOWEEN THEME PARK

Waxahachie, Texas is home to what is billed as “The World’s Largest Halloween Theme Park.” The Dallas-area park is open through October 31st and boasts five haunted attractions including the Maze of the Macabre, Ghoulish Graveyard, and Trail of Terror. Given the park’s panache for bloody limbs and decapitated fortunetellers, it’s best reserved for guests 16 and up.
If you have younger children, consider visiting the park’s kiddie section, Spooky Hollow. The area has games, rides, candy and face painting for little ones.

HALLOWEEN HAUNT

Kings Island theme park in Cincinnati, Ohio, is once again freaking out visitors with a host of ghastly attractions. Billed as “the most immersive horror experience in the Midwest,” the park has been transformed into a Halloween haven. Through October 31st you can mingle with 500 ghostly creatures while visiting 13 haunted attractions, including the blood-filled slaughterhouse, a pirate-themed “Cut Throat Cove” maze, and a vampire-populated stage show. In addition to the spooky attractions, the park features a bevy of “roamers and creepers” that jump out at unsuspecting guests from the dark recesses of the park.

KNOTT’S SCARY FARM HALLOWEEN HAUNT

Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California is celebrating its 37th year of Halloween happenings. This year the 160-acre park is being transformed into a living horror movie filled with 12 hair-raising mazes, six scream-tacular shows, three bloody scare zones, and a cast of a thousand monsters roaming for their next victims. Due to its gory nature this event is recommended for guests 16 years and older.
