Today has been one of those days where I rattle around, attempting to do a long list of tasks, and not getting anything done. As I sat down at my computer preparing to begin my writing for the day I asked myself what was wrong with me today. And it hit me that I hadn’t read my scriptures yet today. So I went and read them, and prayed, and I’ve felt so much more peaceful today.
Daily scripture reading is a chance to focus and to be still. During the time that we read our scriptures each day it shows Heavenly Father we are willing to set aside time to learn His will and love for us. It is a time when you open communication with the Lord and can receive guidance.
There have been times in my life when it has been extremely difficult to study the scriptures. The reasons can vary, a lot of the time I am trying to read while kids are clamoring in the background or during a hectic day. Other times the difficulty may come as a result of the trials I am facing. Either way I know that making the extra effort and reading my scriptures makes a big difference in my day and in the way that I look at things.
I have also found that saying a short prayer before I begin studying and then a longer prayer afterwards makes a huge difference in the effectiveness of my study. The habits of daily scripture study and personal prayer have made a huge difference in my life, and I am so grateful for the blessings that come as I strive to follow these simple commandments. How has your life been blessed as you have strived to study the scriptures on a regular basis? How have you made your study time more effective?
