Being a mother is one of the biggest responsibilities in this life. It is not an easy one. It is stressful, and complicated, and tests your patience like nothing I’ve ever experienced. It is wonderful too, but sometimes, I think we as moms need to be reassured, strengthened, and shown love. Unfortunately, we don’t always get that from the little people we take care of. But, there is one person that is there for us, and that is our Heavenly Father.
Today I was thinking about some of the scriptures that bring me strength as a mother. And, I immediately thought of the scripture I used as the motto for my mission. Phillipians 4:13 states, “I can do all things through Christ, which strengtheneth me.” The Lord knows that we can do hard things. We must believe that, too. And, through Him, we can be strengthened in our job as a mother.
Another one that I immediately thought of is in Mosiah 4:27. It states, “And see that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order.” And, this doesn’t necessarily mean we will always have an orderly house. In fact, it gives me strength to know that I am not expected to do everything at once. As long as I am diligent in my desire, and rely on the Lord, I will be successful.
Last, in 2nd Nephi 28 verse 30, it states, “For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn wisdom; for unto him that receiveth I will give more; and from them that shall say, We have enough, from them shall be taken away even that which they have.” This is one that I was really thinking about today. Motherhood is a gradual evolvement. We cannot become the perfect mother over night. In fact, it takes a lifetime to learn all that the Lord wants us to. We will make mistakes, and as we learn from them, the Lord will bless us. But, we cannot learn everything at once.
Relying on the scriptures as a mother is something I could definitely work on, and I know that as I do, the Lord will strengthen me. And, I will be a better mom as a result.
