Faced with the reality of the savings, why don’t we all cook more and eat out less? Well, one of the main reasons is that the idea of cooking every meal at home when our lives are so busy can seem daunting. Guess what, though? Eating at home can actually be less time consuming than going out in many cases. Plus, if you follow the following advice, you will see that … Continue reading

My Son’s Birthday Party Part II

While the first tradition I have for my son’s birthday parties involve chocolate cake, the second tradition involves making my son some kind of crazy crown hat to wear for the party! Made out of colored construction paper, this party hat is the envy of all. It is not a traditional crown but more a circular head piece with lots of colorful paper sticking out all over. Every year it is a little bit different than the year before. After making said birthday party hat, I turned my attention to the chocolate cupcakes. I used my favorite chocolate cake recipe … Continue reading

A Breastfeeding Story – Part 1

One of the things that you may be thinking about during your pregnancy is whether you will breastfeed your baby once he or she arrives. It is important to think about this ahead of time, so that you can educate yourself about the types of resources and support that are available to nursing mothers in the event that you run into a difficult start with breastfeeding. One important thing to remember is that while breastfeeding your baby is completely natural, it is something that requires both mother and baby to do a bit of learning. Minnesota is Working on a State Health Insurance Exchange

Not every state has decided to create a state health insurance exchange. Many that did choose to make one have been working hard to get it ready to go. Minnesota recently selected the company that will help them to build the technical part of their exchange. Last year, in April, the Minnesota House of Representatives introduced a bill that would ban Minnesota from creating a health insurance exchange. This was a bill presented by the Republican politicians in the Minnesota House of Representatives. If this bill were passed into law, it would mean that Minnesota would end up with a … Continue reading

Chronic back pain has plagued me in my adult life. I have gone through phases in my life where I have made more time for exercise and health. … Continue reading

Meeting Baby For The First Time

If you are pregnant with your first child, you may be wondering what it’s like to meet your new baby for the first time at the hospital. Of course, since every child and every birth is different, there is no “standard procedure” by which new parents get acquainted with their newborns. The births of my two sons were different, so I met each of them in a slightly different way. Dylan was born at around seven in the evening. He was born in a local hospital, and my labor had been induced because of preeclampsia. The delivery was fairly uneventful, … Continue reading

Take a Joyride to Radiator Springs at Cars Land

Radiator Springs is officially open for visitation on June 15. That’s the date that Disneyland’s newest park, Cars Land, is open to the public. The official Disney Parks blog has been posting a lot of pictures from Cars Land lately, but what I’ve actually found most informative about the forthcoming park is its own website. I want to refer to Cars Land as Radiator Springs because that’s basically what it is: guests walk right down Route 66 into the small town and they can visit all the shops and residences of the cars that live there. Swing by Fillmore’s Taste-In … Continue reading
