Fall is in the air, and if you have kids, signs of the season are likely on your floors, tables and chairs.
Yesterday, I found a colorful leaf near the bathtub.
A soggy, orange leaf that likely hitched a ride on the bottom of my daughter’s shoe.
While I am a huge fan of autumn’s brilliant colors, I’d prefer them sprucing up my home in others ways. For example, if you are trying to add seasonal flair to your home this fall, but don’t have a ton of money to buy elaborate decorations, consider crafting these affordable projects using natural elements:
FALL CANDLES
Materials:
Plain white or ivory pillar candles
White tissue paper
Fall leaves
Glue stick
Cardstock
Heat gun used for rubber stamping
Beads in fall colors
Craft wire
Wire cutters
Pliers
Directions:
Using the glue stick, attach tissue paper to a piece of cardstock.
Glue a leaf onto the tissue paper.
Cut-out the leaf and peel it away from the cardstock.
Use the heat gun to attach the leaf to the candle. (As the wax melts, the tissue paper with the leaf will adhere to the candle.)
Cut a piece of craft wire long enough to wrap a couple of times around the base of the candle.
Make a loop at one end of the wire.
String a few beads on the wire and make a loop at the other end of the wire to keep them from slipping off.
Wrap the beaded wire around the bottom of the candle for an autumnal-themed table decoration.
FALL WREATH
Materials:
Straw wreath
Ribbon in fall colors (orange, yellow, rust, gold, etc.)
Craft wire
Hot glue gun
Fall leaves, pine cones, nuts, berries, etc.
Directions:
Wrap the ribbon around the wreath.
Secure both ends of the ribbon to the wreath with a little glue.
Make a bow out of the remaining ribbon and hot glue it to the top or bottom of the wreath.
Use the glue to attach leaves and other embellishments.
Use the wire to make a hanging loop.
Display the wreath on a door or wall to add some seasonal color to your home.
