Seasonal Decorating—Getting Your Home Ready For Fall—Part 2

In my previous blog: “Seasonal Decorating—Getting Your Home Ready For Fall—Part 1” I provided tips on how you can transform your home from its sunny summer themed décor to a fall showcase of rich warm hues. As I mentioned earlier, the transition can be done quickly, easily and affordably. Here are more seasonal decorating ideas that will help you fall into fall.

BATHROOMS

· Surround your sink and tub with coordinated, fall-themed candles. I saw several candles at our local department store that featured dried leaves petrified in the candles wax. If that doesn’t intrigue you, consider sticking to a more traditional candle in warm fall hues including gold, yellow, burnt orange, sage, or olive green.

· Add warmer colored towels. If you can afford it, you may consider changing your shower curtain to match your autumn colored towels.

· Add fragrant soaps in harvest colors: orange, pale yellow and dark green.

· Change the curtain valance to an autumnal color.

BEDROOMS

· Change the pile of pillows on beds from cotton and linen fabrics to wool or tapestry.

· Add an autumnal-themed quilt to your bed or cover a down comforter with an autumnal colored duvet.

· Change sheer curtains to ready-made velvet panels. Pottery Barn has a few different varieties for less than $100 a piece.

JUST FOR KIDS

I have a 2-year-old so it is impossible for me to completely ignore that autumn also means Halloween is not far away. With that said, I have several pieces of Halloween inspired décor in certain areas of our home. Currently, we have about four windows covered with jack-o-lantern gel stick-ums and the more traditional ghost and candy corn window stickers. In addition, we have swapped out my daughter’s Snoopy night light for a pumpkin one and we also have a variety of ghost and pumpkin-shaped candy dishes sitting on a number of end tables (no candy, just the dishes, my daughter fills them with band-aids and stickers). Finally, our dining room is decorated with Indian corn, baby gourds and scarecrows (my daughter’s contribution).
