Seasonal Getaways for Guys

Not all guys’ weekends during the fall need to revolve around football. After all, there’s still golf.

My BFF is a golf widow during the summer months and during autumn she is a woman scorned. Her hubby rationalizes that golfing during the fall is even more critical than in the summer, because it’s just a matter of time before the courses close for the season.

Unfortunately, her husband has a point. Fall is one of the best times of the year to score super savings on golf vacation packages. By bundling accommodations, rounds of play and cart rentals, golf addicts can save a ton of money. What’s more, most of the “stay and play” deals are offered by resorts located in the country’s top spots for fall leaf-peeping.

For example, Michigan’s best courses offer amazing autumn deals for golfers looking to swing and shoot surrounded by phenomenal fall foliage. Wild Bluff Rapids, St. Ives, and Gaylord Golf Mecca are just some of the properties you can play at drastically reduced prices. The majority of the packages are priced under $100 and include an 18-hole round of golf with a cart, one-night hotel stay, a dining credit at a hotel restaurant and a free drink coupon.

Another hot spot for a guys’ golf weekend is North Carolina. The state is home to more than 40 world-class courses and a slew of outstanding resorts, including Pinehurst. A “stay and play” package here typically includes hotel accommodations, multiple rounds of golf, plus a cart and a pro shop gift certificate, all for less than $250.

Before booking a package deal, be sure to look at the fine print. The bundled savings vary from property to property, as do the expiration dates. Also, carefully review what’s included in a particular package before handing over your credit card. If you don’t plan to use the cart or you don’t drink, then you might be able to negotiate with the resort to include other amenities instead, such as additional discounts at the pro shop or an extra meal voucher.
