I have been looking at those luscious catalogues again. You know the ones by Pottery Barn and others that create the ultimate in a well-organized and ultra beautiful home? You think, hmm, maybe if I lived in one of those pages, life would be prefect. Okay, so it really wouldn’t, but the luxurious bedding, the elegant dining rooms, the lack of peanut butter fingerprints anywhere really does make you want to live in the dream.
Usually, I just try to “steal” ideas from those glossy pages and adapt them to our home. After all, who can really afford a $70 candle that looks best grouped with three or four other $70 candles.
One look that I have been envying is what I call the bed and breakfast look. It is the feeling as though you are in a cozy cottage or bed and breakfast somewhere in New England or perhaps the Rockies. This look features layers of bedding with lots and lots of throw pillows, and it caries over to the couches with lots and lots of throw pillows. Well, I don’t really want to invest in lots and lots of throw pillows.
But, it came to me last night, as I was snuggling under a Christmas throw blanket with my daughter. Why not make my own pillow casings that could then be used to hold the throws when not in use. The throws tend to wander away and make themselves into forts, super hero capes, living room floor sleds, etc. This solution might kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.
This is the plan: I can make the casings with the fabric overlapping the back side. Then instead of putting in pillow forms and sewing the casings closed, I can secure them with a button at the back. The throws and blankets could then get folded and placed inside the casings. Instant cottage look, and the winter throws are always available when the adults need them.
What do you think?
