For part one in this series, go here. For part two, go here.
Once we seek the spirit, is it enough to move about our lives and only feel it when necessary? What if instead of thinking of the Holy Ghost as a companionship that we want, and would be beneficial, we thought of it in more critical terms. What if we had to rely on the spirit for survival? Missionaries definitely feel that. But, do we? We should feel like we cannot survive this mortal experience unless we have the Holy Ghost in our lives daily.
When I was a missionary, we were still using the discussions to teach. Now, they use Preach my Gospel. In Preach my gospel, there is a section on relying on the Spirit. It talks about daily planning sessions that missionaries should do, and questions they should ask themselves daily like, Where should I go? What should I do? What should I say? How do I adapt my teaching to the needs of my investigators? Which scriptures should I use and how?
What if we had daily planning sessions with ourselves? How would our lives be different if we sat down every morning after reading our scriptures and had our own planning meeting? We could ask ourselves, Where should I go today? What should I do? What should I say? How can I share the gospel with someone? How should I use the scriptures in my life today? Asking ourselves these kinds of questions daily, coupled with prayer and daily scripture study will almost certainly help lead our lives with the Spirit every single day. We will not only be feeling the spirit, but we will be RELYING on it for our daily existence.
If we rely on the Spirit in our daily lives, then we will most definitely notice a difference when it is not with us. As a missionary, I prayed for the Spirit all day long. Every time we got in and out of the car, we said a prayer. We prayed for virtually every action we took each day. While we may not be able to bow our heads and say a formal pray 25 times a day, we can certainly always being praying to the Lord in our hearts, and asking him to bless us over every step and action we take each day.
And, don’t forget to check back for the next part in this series about following promptings from the Holy Ghost.
